Town of Merton is Located in the North Central Section of Waukesha County, Wisconsin.

The Town of Merton is one of the most complex municipalities in Waukesha County with 8 elementary schools, 2 union high schools, K-8 school district, 3 different fire districts, 3 ambulance districts and 8 different tax rates depending on the elementary school district.


There are 84 miles of town roads, 11 wards and two polling places, to serve almost 6,300 registered voters and a population of 8,478

  • Township is Zoned. Building Permits are required. (See Building Inspection Page)
  • Zoning Permits are required from Waukesha County if property is in Shoreland Jurisdiction.
  • Firearm ordinances are in effect. Restricted hunting. Hunting is prohibited on Town of Merton Land.
  • Dog Licenses are required in the Town.
  • Burning permits are required. Contact the appropriate fire Chief.
  • All lakes have boating regulations as to skiing and speed limits. Check with the Water Safety Officer or Lake Management District's for the Lake in Question.
  • As of January 1, 2016, the town contracts with Advanced Disposal for up-the-drive garbage and recycling pickup. There will be a special charge on your tax bill for this service.
  • No unlicensed vehicles my be stored outside.
