The Town contracts with an independent firm for assessment services to fill the Appointed Statutory Position of Assessor. Catalis is the current firm formerly known as Grota Appraisals. The Town Assessor’s main responsibility is for discovering, listing and valuing all real estate property with the town boundaries. These valuations ensure that municapl property taxes are distrubted fairly and equitably among all property owners according to state and local law. The Assessor’s Office establishes property value, not tax rates. The Assessor provides the official assessment roll to the Town Clerk and holds annual Open Book inspections, and attends all sessions of the Board of Review.
