Payment Methods

In Person or By Mail

The Town of Merton accepts checks, money orders, cashier's checks, cash, and credit cards as payment. Checks can be mailed to the Town of Merton, PO Box 128, North Lake, WI 53064. Charges will apply for payments made through the Town's credit card vendor (2.15%/$3.99 minimum for credit/debit cards and $2.00 for e-checks).

Drop Box

A 24-hour drop box is located on the south side of the Town Hall by the main entrance.

Online Payments

Charges apply for payments made through the Town's credit card vendor (2.15%/$3.99 minimum for credit/debit cards).

  • Dog license payments can be made online after an online application is submitted. The online application form can be found by clicking HERE. After payment and the application have been received, the Town will mail the dog license.
  • Compost pass payments can be made online after an online application is submitted. The online application form can by found by clicking HERE. After payment and the application have been received, the Town will mail the compost pass.
  • Operator's (Bartender's) license payments can be made online after an online application is submitted. The online application form can be found by clicking HERE. After payment and the application have been received, the Town will mail the license.
  • Invoice payments can be made online for bills sent by the Town for charges such as: garbage charges, planner fees, engineering fees, attorney fees, county BOA meeting fees (that the Town of Merton BOA members must attend), and miscellaneous fees.

Property Tax Payments

Property tax payments can be made online at the Waukesha County Tax Website. Fees apply (2.39% for credit cards, $1.50 for electronic checks up to $10,000 and $10 for electronic checks over $10,000, or a flat rate of $3.95 for a debit card transaction). 

Bank Five Nine in Hartland (800 Cardinal Lane) also collects property tax payments for the Town of Merton in December and January. Payments can be made in cash or check and should be accompanied by the payment stub from the tax bill. Check payments should be made out to the Town of Merton.

Property Tax Refunds

If your check or online payment exceeds the amount due on your property tax bill by $5.00 or over, the Town will issue a refund check to you within 2-4 weeks. If your refund is less than $5.00, you may request a refund in person at the Town Hall. If paying in person, the Town will issue a cash refund if the amount is $10 or less, otherwise a check will be issued within 2-4 weeks.

Returned Checks

Checks returned as NSF shall result in a $25 NSF fee charged to the payer.
